Flyleaf Unite and Fight 2010 tour.

I am a major fan of Flyleaf music. Flyleaf is a hard rock band. Members are: Lacey on vocals, Sameer Bhattacharya and Jared Hartmann on guitar, Pat Seals on bass, and James Culpepper on drums. Their song "I'm so sick" lead me to their fan path many years ago, and I've been hooked ever since. I love the writing, as all their songs are full of meaningful, healing, lyrics. Every song by flyleaf strikes a chord within me. Tonight, when they made their OKC stop, was the first time I had seen/heard them live. I loved every minute of this show. The guitarists are firecrackers. So lively on that stage, you feel every strum of every chord, in every song. I've never seen a bass man come alive in a show, the way that Pat did tonight. This is saying a lot, as I've been to my fair share of rock concerts. That is what Flyleaf did tonight, they rocked the house. Not only did they rock the house, but they rocked my soul. So much so I felt every second of the show as if I were on the stage with them, tearing away at each song. Lacey is a sweetheart, and boy does she have a giant voice. She is a tiny lady, but her heart is so full of giant, size becomes obsolete. Lacey said some beautiful things to us in the crowd, in between songs that reached me on a very personal level. I needed to hear what she was saying. I needed to be reminded, to just be me, and that I am enough. No matter where I am or what I do in life. Being me is enough. She also spoke of an organization called World Vision. The Unite and Fight tour is working with World Vision to try and stop human trafficing of children. It's a brillant cause and if you'd like to help with pulling a young girl from the hells of human trafficing, you can do so by texting UNITE to 20222. This sends a $10 donation and you can text it up to 3 times.

I had an amazing time hearing my favorite rock band, live for the first time tonight. Flyleaf never ceases to amaze me. I only hope that there are more oppurtunities to see their live show. It is amazing. If flyleaf is playing near you, I strongly suggest you go. You will not be disappointed in their performance. Such amazing talent resides in these minds, vocal chords, and hands. I was blown away, and moved, and healed a bit from their performance tonight. I am a firm believer that music is the best of all medicines. Tonight, flyleaf was my medicine and tonight, they were my bandaid. Go. Watch. Listen. Love. all that is flyleaf.
For your listening pleasure I've attached two of my favorite flyleaf songs. Enjoy. Also, make sure you head on over and visit flyleaf's website. WWW.Flyleafmusic.com Also, snatch up their newest album Momento Mori. It's amazing and it is available in stores and online download. Go get yours today! : )

Reminds me of waking up first thing in the morning, and looking over to a beloved person still sleeping next to you. This song makes for a path to say goodbye to the terrors that yesterday may have left you with, and looking into hope of making today a better one. Oh, those are beautiful days. Go listen, and love.

Glen Hansard - Say It To Me Now

I love it when I come across artists that are dripping in emotion. When they open their mouth, you feel to the core, what that artist is feeling. Whether you have experiecned it or not. So raw, so rare, so..... bare. I found it in this here song. Have a listen.

"Bobby Long came round and we had a beer"

I've a myspace blog that I do not keep updated much these days, was going through my posts to see which music posts were worthy of re-posting here. This one is definitely worth re-posting here. <3

Tuesday, March 16th 2010, I celebrated my 29th birthday with a Bobby Long show at Poor David's Pub, in Dallas Texas. Bobby sounded THE BEST I have ever heard him. I can not describe the rich quality behind his vocals at this show. He is definitely getting better and better each time he stands behind a mic on each stage, for every crowd. This man's voice will be soothing our souls for many years to come.
Now, as soon as I got in the venue I found Phil and he accomidated my friend Rea with a nice little spot with a great view of the stage. AND he bought me a shot. At first, when Phil asked me what I was drinking, I went with the usual, a shiner. BUT a lovely little lady named Misty just happened to be near by and reminded me I needed to take a shot for my birthday, so Phil got me a tequilla shot for my birthday shot : ) Phil told me to enjoy the show, and that he would come get me when Bobby was ready to meet with me. SO I took my shot, ordered a couple of drinks for my friends and myself, then sat down to listen to Bobby Long sing and play his beautiful Gibson.
Bobby's complete setlist for this show escapes my mind. But I know that "Two Tone Lover" "Two Years Old" "In The Frost" "My Darling Bell" Jack Teagarden cover "A 100 years from today" (ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFULY DELIVERED ! x's 100) "T is for Texas" Cover "Pennance Fire Blues" "Who have you been loving" (which he dedicated to Tiger Woods, again) and he said because he is half irish, (which I am too, so I really enjoyed this one)he wanted to close the show with "Dublin's there for me."

Now, the good stuff. Phil came and got me, and took me back to meet Bobby for my private meet & greet "backstage." We sat down and drank a beer while chatting away. I don't want to share the conversastion that Bobby and I had, that is for me, myself, and I. Well, and bobby's lovey friends that were there. Just know that it was Very Real. Our conversation. : ) I will however, share that Bobby Long is the most Humble Man I have ever met. He seemed so genuine. Bobby signed numerous items that I brought in from his merch table. (that was money well spent as well) AND he Answered the million dollar ? that involves his song "this strange love." The line no one could figure out, I asked, and Bobby clarified. The line is "methanol mind full of ugly heads." To all you Bobby Long fans out there that have been trying to decipher that line, you are welcome. ; )

I am honoured and blessed to have had the oppurtunity, to sit and have a conversation with this young man. His music touches my soul, and moves me to a higher place, in my darkest moments. Bobby is, to those of you that know me, the Guitar Ninja. I could listen to him play that guitar, for days on end, and it would NEVER get old. I am so lucky to have been able to sit down with this artist that I so completely admire.

Bobby Long inspires me to pursue things, dreams, I gave up so long ago, to raise my boys. Being a young mother, raising my boys and providing for them, became my priority. My boys are my life : )

Bobby Long, plays the guitar in a way that can steal your breath. I am moved by his words, and his chords, on that Gibson of his. Seeing Bobby off the stage, and on a coach, chatting with me, showed me a glimpse of who he is inside. He welcomed me, like I was an old friend coming to have a visit. The warmth in his heart shined through, in our conversasion. This makes me appreciate and Respect him as an artist even MORE. What a lovely man Bobby Long is, and I am Proud to say, I am a fan. : )

Even though it doesn't feel like nearly enough...
That is all.

"This Strange Love" by Bobby Long. Lyrics

"This Strange Love" by Bobby Long. I love this song. It touches me deeply. I have been trying to decipher the lyrics that I am uncertain of. On March 16th, 2010 I talked with Bobby Long backstage after this Poor Davids Pub show, and asked him the "line" I was unsure of. I forgot to have him clarify "Timeless Love" for me. He may be saying "timeless dove"/ or "time they start." Unsure.... take that line in stride. : )
Lyrics based on the version from Bobby Long's "Live at Arlene's Grovery" CD
This song is written by Bobby Long and owned by Bobby Long.

This Strange Love

This strange love won't wait
Won't you write it out for me
like it wasn't written up above
So I'm callin' on angels arms

Strangers from a far
Pick and they hunt me
like it's a fault laid ridden on my breast

Cus My lazy mind needs his bed
So I'm thinkin' of bein done

mmmmmmm

So if you
think you might need to come
cryin' out
ohh
Outdated Frustrated uh-oh
A Timeless love callin' on angles arms
ohoohhh
oooohh
oh yea a a yea

So Thinkin' men awake in their heads
Pay nothin' for free
It's their thoughts which pay my debts
So Methonal mind full of ugly heads (this line confirmed to me By Bobby Long Himself)
with nothing left to spare
cryin' out to the panicked soaked sky
Thinkin' of being done

oooh
oooohh
oh aayy yea

So if you
think you might need to come,
cryin' out
ooo
Outdated. Frustrated uh -oh
Timeless Love
hey yea yea

But see her fall from the lonely
The children askin' her to
see the sun

hey ay ay
ooohh oh oh

So if you think you might need to come
cryin' out
oooh oh oh
outdated. frustrated uh-oh
Timeless love

With drunk on kisses
busted wishes of old
timeless love
callin on angels arms
callin on angels arms
callin' on angels arms
mmmmmmmmm

Driven by passion, Anthony Hall delivers beautiful acoustic Music.

Tonight, I had the privilege to speak with a new found artist of mine. Thanks to the lovely JR and his radio show, New Music Inferno, on blog talk radio. http://www.blogtalkradio.com/newmusicinferno

Anthony Hall is his name. The acoustic guitar is his game. This young man is one musician to watch for. By speaking with Anthony, I had the opportunity to ask him a few questions. One of which, is my favorite question to ask all Artists I have the chance to speak with. I asked Anthony, what is one thing that he would like new listeners and his current fans, to know about him and his music. Anthony Hall then explained to me that he is extremely passionate about music. He further explained to me that, he sees his fans as friends. He feels like the label of fans is not an accurate description of his followers. Anthony is compassionate to his friends and admirably passionate about his music. What drives for better music than passion? Not much. Anthony also shared with me, that he started writing poems and songs at the age of 7 or 8. He mentioned, they were not very good. Yet, what 7 or 8 year old writes a masterpiece? I don't know any. This tells me there has been a drive to his passion from a very young, tender age. His young attempts at words, led him to develop an extreme passion for music. Anthony took an instant liking to the guitar, so he picked it up when he was a mere 15. Self taught, he attempted to learn cover songs, yet some how didn't have the patience to ever learn a full cover. Anthony said he would learn one or two chords from a cover and that was about it. There was a drive inside of him, that led him to write original material. He had words, and people for inspiration. Anthony took his drive and his passion on a road that is leading him in big places. With admirable qualities, and support of the "original 2o" Anthony Hall, is one singer/song writer that has only just begun a life's long journey.

There are several listen worthy tunes on Anthony's myspace music page to give you an understanding of his sound. His voice is tame. Listening to his acoustic guitar is soothing to the soul. Check out this artist, his music is worth it. My personal favorite on his pop out play list is "Praying for Rain." A song he penned about a girl he felt intimately for, beyond friendship, before he ever acted on his feelings. This song and the meaning behind the lyrics, make this such a beautiful, heart felt song. I absolutely love it, and feel it to my core. The other song I would like to mention that has really touched me, is "Friends."
Such a lovely tune, about love and friendship. Go listen, you will not be disappointed. www.myspace.com/anthonyhallacoustic

Anthony does some live sessions on www.stickam.com/anthonyacoustic Sunday evenings should you like a shot at getting a glimpse of this artist live. Anthony also has a twitter. @anthonyacoustic. Follow him, and tell your friends

Anthony Hall seems to be finding his musical path, as he explained that he is maturing in his sound. He is very confident in his upcoming release due to this internal growth. So much so, that he offered to give his current album away,"She Was Summer," for free. Should you be interested in getting your own copy of Anthony Hall's "She Was Summer," just shoot him an email. www.myspace.com/anthonyhallacoustic

Listeners Appreciation.

Music is an art form, that is best appreciated in it's truest form, Live. Over the last six months, I had several opportunities to attend some truly amazing shows. This blessed me with the privilege of not only witnessing true art in the moment, but meeting the artists behind the work as well. Of this handful of artists, my favorite show, was that of Marcus Foster, at the Prophet Bar, December 10th, 2009. I am a firm believer in the fact that a listener doesn't have a chance to fully grasp the essence of an artist, until they have had the privilege of seeing them live. Every time an artist steps onto the vulnerable stage, they are sharing with us, not only their music, but their vulnerability as well. We, as listeners, must appreciate this fact, and embrace it along with the artist. Once music starts flowing, it is our duty, which in my opinion, should be automatic, to go silent, and listen. Now, this is not to say that you shouldn't sing along. By all means, please do that. Most artists love to hear their crowd sing along with their songs. However, if you are going to talk all through an artists set, ask yourself, why are you there? If not to listen? It is a very brave quality, artists behold, to step onto a stage and share some of their most intimate pieces of their lives. All within their music.

It is not often that, we listeners, are given the opportunity to meet those that touch our hearts with music. Nor is it required. It is a privilege. Artists that stand to meet their fans after shows to take pictures, sign autographs and give us a quick word, do so to show their appreciation to us, their fans. This will not always happen, and we need to respect the fact that it is, in fact a privilege. This is not an opportunity to grope, plug yourself, or intellectually insult an artist with demeaning references to which body part you like the most. This in fact, is belittling the artist, that of which most listeners truly respect. So let's keep this in mind, next time we are given the amazing gift of five minutes, a photo, and an autograph with our favorite artists, whomever it may be.

This is just a few words of wisdom, from me, a listener, to all fellow listeners that may be unaware of thier actions. Take this post in stride. Re-asses your past actions, and keep these thoughts in mind when you attend your next show. The artist will appreciate this.

That is all.
~DeEtta Marie
